Turkish Energy Leadership and its Implication for European Energy Security

Podiumsdiskussion

Istanbul Policy Center and stiftung neue verantwortung will hold the panel discussion Turkish Energy Leadership and its Implication for European Energy Security within the framework of the Mercator-IPC Fellowship Program in Berlin.

With the ongoing Ukrainian crisis, the diversification of energy supplies is back on the European agenda. Turkey plays a major role in these diversification efforts thanks to its geographic position in the so-called Southern Gas Corridor.

The Turkish government, however, has its own agenda. It has pledged to make the country an energy hub and a regional energy leader. As is demonstrated by the failure of the Nabucco pipeline project and recent steps towards establishing the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline, Turkey’s ambitions can also pose a challenge to European interests.

The event seeks to evaluate Turkey’s agenda and its impact on European energy security. After the introductory statements, participants will engage in an interactive, moderated discussion. The event will be held in English under the Chatham House Rule. A light lunch will be served during the event.
