Together with John Lee, Senior Analyst at the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS), Jan-Peter Kleinhans analyses the importance of Taiwan for the global semiconductor value chain. The first article explains why the Taiwanese contract chip manufacturer TSMC is almost indispensable to the entire ecosystem. The second piece then assesses the geopolitical situation of Taiwan and whether China would try to take control of Taiwan in order to seize TSMC.
