The German armed forces, operating under the framework of military intelligence, is running substantial intelligence gathering, rivaling the methods and capacities of other intelligence-gathering services in Germany. Corbinian Ruckerbauer outlines these capabilities alongside the deficiencies in democratic control within the military intelligence sector. The German government should use the upcoming reform of intelligence legislation to address and rectify these oversight gaps while strengthening the powers of oversight authorities.
