Digital infrastructures

Due to its central economic and social importance, the state takes care of expansion and maintenance of basic infrastructure, such as waterways, railways, and roads. Germany's digital infrastructures are increasingly taking on a similar significance for businesses and consumers, and as such are entering into the centre of political debates. Apart from the expansion of broadband networks, digital infrastructure policy also includes regulation of telecommunication and mobile networks, as well as the assignment of radio frequencies.
