Dr. Martin Degeling
Technical Expert "Auditing of Recommendation Systems"
Dr. Martin Degeling joined SNV in May 2022 to work on the project to analyse and evaluate AI-based recommendation systems for internet intermediaries.
He is interested in (semi) automated analysis and auditing of IT systems with respect to their effects on individuals and societies as a whole. Until June 2022 he was scientific coordinator for a research training group on human-centered systems security at Ruhr University Bochum and was previously a post-doctoral fellow at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. In his research, he analysed how legal privacy frameworks were adopted on websites and showed which technical and organisational challenges occur. He also analysed how behavioral data is collected and leveraged to create profiles on users.
