Transatlantic Workshop on "Securing Democracy"

Experts from the Transatlantic Cyber Forum working group on "Cyber Defense & Political IT-Infrastructures" came together in Berlin from June 18th-19th for the group’s second in-person workshop. The first in-person meeting took place July 10-11th, 2017, in Washington, D.C.

The group is comprised of experts from civil society, academia, and the private sector from both Germany and the United States.  The workshop’s discussions focused on key debates emerging from the group’s online collaborative work, namely the specifics of proposed safeguards for protecting data-driven elections. The group also evaluated its collaborative work in light of recent developments related to election security — both events and scholarship — and discussed dissemination and impact strategies for the paper.

The group will continue to collaborate online in the coming weeks, after which the paper, “Securing Democracy in Cyberspace: An Approach to Protecting Data-Driven Elections,” will be made ready for sharing and discussion.

The workshop was organised and moderated by Sven Herpig and Julia Schuetze.
