Balancing openness and privacy (4th International Open Data Conference)

Session at the 4th International Open Data Conference

This session will gather privacy experts and open data practitioners to explore the privacy concerns that have emerged across the global openness community. In spite of much current debate, there is a need for privacy and transparency communities to agree on standards on how to protect the privacy of individuals in public sector information data management whilst ensuring maximal access to information.

Prior the IODC we will run discussions with the community; providing the basis for workshop discussions and generating reference materials. During the session itself, we will share experiences, discuss principles, and guidelines for policies.

The goal of the discussion is to codify privacy problems into a clear typology, identify patterns of challenges that have occurred in multiple countries, and document best practices for solutions in policy and practice. The session will provide the basis for developing global standards for privacy in openness. The outcome of this session will be a roadmap for the development of clear principles on openness and privacy.
