Human Rights and digital technology: Prof. Martin Scheinin to discuss EU measures against terrorist content online

Many people are currently discussing the risk of upload filters against copyright infringements. Less debated, but equally important, the EU Regulation on Terrorist Content online also aims to introduce take-down orders and filtering for "terrorist propaganda" on the internet.

Prof. Martin Scheinin will present and discuss his legal analysis of the newly adopted or draft EU regulation on terrorist content online, as well as possible amendments and the potential for court challenges. He is former UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Counter Terrorism and current member of the Scientific Committee of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency.

Drawing on his emerging research project, Prof Scheinin will also present his forward-looking ideas that seek to develop a conceptual-legal framework for human rights in the digital age. He will focus on the question whether human rights law, representing a post-1945 conceptual framework, is capable of addressing the major challenges that characterize the current digital information age.
