Democratic Intelligence - A New Online Repository of Safeguards and Innovations

Seven years after the Snowden revelations, recent key court rulings in Europe like the Schrems II case, as well as the landmark ruling by the German Federal Constitutional Court that declared the foreign intelligence law unconstitutional, have drawn a renewed focus on surveillance legislation and oversight.

Against this backdrop, Stiftung Neue Verantwortung and the Heinrich Böll Foundation present a new online tool which features and discusses good practices from democracies that reformed legislation and oversight on bulk collection. This tool intends to make intelligence oversight more accessible and transparent. Users can search the compendium for entries from specific countries or entries related to a particular phase within the intelligence oversight cycle. The website is also an interactive call for participation.

The virtual launch of this website takes place on Thursday, 18 March 2021, 5:00 pm CET. For more information on the programme of the launch event and details on how to join follow this link. The tool itself will be available at intelligence-oversight.org and will go online prior to the launch event on 18 March.
